Food During The Holidays

I'm sorry I haven't posted anything sooner to the New Year but I've needed to get everything in order before starting 2013 and this year I'll try to juggle everything a lot better okay guys? Thank you for bearing with me!

To start off, just a quick picture post of some things I ate and made during my recent holiday to the coast.

Cider Mini Post

Just for the record, I think cider is awesome. It's full of apple-y goodness (mostly)! It might not be as big here in Australia as say in the US or England. Now, not everyone's judgement of drinks is the same (and I'm certainly no expert), but here's mine in simple yay, nay or eh form (obviously with name, country & the occasional note).

Cider

Why is it that not many people drink cider nowadays? Now that's a question I like to ponder. Is it because beer is so ingrained in Aussie culture? (Example: summer barbie, beach cricket, cold beer in hand.) Or is it because people just don't really like the thought of alcoholic apple juice?

Christmas

Holidays (especially christmas) are times to let go of any diets (though you shouldn't be on one anyway) and enjoy FOOD!
On the Central Coast, I'm very content with my seafood box (calamari, fish stick, fish, chips) and my home-made mint choc chip ice cream!

Bâton Rouge, Thornhill, Ontario

Red stick? What a strange name for a Canadian chain known for it's ribs. I never really like chain restaurants but since there was nothing else, I decided to give Bâton Rouge a shot.

1640 Bistro, Vieux-Québec, Québec

Vieux-Québec, also known as Old Québec City, is the place to go if you can't get to Paris. There's a sort of old-world charm floating around this walled city and a great place to people-watch and soak in the atmosphere is the 1640 Bistro.

Beerbistro, Toronto, Ontario

I hear the words beer, bistro & belgium and my ears prick up. Kinda like on a horse. I really like this place! So much so that I miss it and want to come back! Which is so much easier said than done...

Kingston Dog

It's a wonder we don't see hotdog carts on Sydney streets. Sure, they'd probably come under health review a few times a month, but why not? You see them dotted on Torontonian streets, New Yorker streets, and even in Kingston.
That all-beef hotdog right there was $3CAD. Unlimited pickle, sauerkraut, tomato relish, mint sauce, ketchup, mustard. Oh yes.

Only In Canada...

Can an ex-hockey player spawn a chain of donut & coffee shops. I present to you Sydneysiders:
TIM HORTONS.
There's probably thousands of Tim Hortons all over Canada... Serving coffee and baked goods to Canadians everywhere, while also fulfilling the need for a little hockey in everything. I guess it's like our Gloria Jeans?

St. Lawrence Market, Toronto, Ontario

St. Lawrence Market is a famed farmers market in downtown Toronto, with many an interesting foodstuff. This is would be the absolute best place for fresh fruits, vegetables, cheeses, pâté and whatever else you can think of. Do I hear picnic?

Bun Saigon, Toronto, Ontario

Oodles and oodles of noodles bun (rice vermicelli). Bun Saigon’s a clean little place in Toronto’s Chinatown that serves some very quite authentic Vietnamese food.

Goldstone Noodle Restaurant, Toronto, Ontario

“Restaurant Closed for Movie Filming”

I’m sorry what? Yes, movie filming. In what locals tell me is one of the yummiest noodle restaurants in Toronto. Goldstone is smack bang on the middle of Spadina, the main artery of a massive Chinatown (compared to Sydney’s anyway). Delicious duck and noodles!

3Square Bakery, Venice, California

Green. Blue. Beige. 3 colors. 3 squares. Tada! 3Square Bakery in Venice, California! This little café/bakery is of the neighbourhood type… If your neighbourhood was an important part of Californian culture that’s filled with cool.

Abbot's Pizza, Venice, California

Abbot’s Pizza is a very popular haunt with some of the best slices in LA county on the now trendy Abbot Kinney Boulevard in Venice. You can go get a (monster) slice on the go or sit, eat and watch the world go by.

Intelligentsia, Venice, California

Cool name huh? This here is the Intelligentsia Venice Coffeebar located on the trendy Abbot Kinney Boulevard (kind of the cooler, brighter, more boho version of George St). Note that inside it's like steampunk mixed with hipster.

Lucky Devils, Hollywood, California

"Best burgers in LA"
Lucky Devils in central Hollywood was voted that by who knows. The important question is: do they live up to that tag?

Asian Garden Mall, Westminster, California

Down in Westminster, California lives the Asian Garden Mall (also known as Phuoc Loc Tho), one of the largest Vietnamese malls in the states. It has quite alot of shops filled with some clothes, novel things and gold/diamond shops. And although the 'food court' is only occupies a small stretch of space, it is a goldmine of Vietnamese foods you'd be hard pressed to find in a single place in say, Cabramatta.
