Caffe Moretti, Leichhardt

Moretti has been open since 1997 and serves food that isn't over complicated and very homely. Simple food is often one of the hardest to cook because restraint in the kitchen is harder than letting go and Moretti does this very well. While I'm waiting outside my tummy rumbles because I can smell all the food, especially the smell of the wood fired pizzas from the oven almost right inside the door.

Bruschetta topped with marinated and grilled eggplant and zucchini $9.50
As one of my dining companions mentioned, eggplant and zucchini have similar textures when grilled which is in nice contrast to the toasted bread. And I do love me a good drizzle of olive oil on bread. Tick for the antipasto!
Tagliata di salsiccia $12.50
Char grilled roman sausage slices
I know I've tasted this flavor before but I cannot put my finger on where. Anywho, it's a little fatty and good with the chopped tomatoes on the bottom of the bowl and buttered bread.
Oscar pizza $24
Mascarpone cheese and prosciutto crudo
This'll probably haunt me forever. Light, creamy mascarpone and thin slivers of prosciutto on a crispy thin 'wood-fired' base... Mmmmm... I'm crying tears of love as I write this.
